Meet our doctors…
Dr. Melani Poundstone graduated from Colorado State University in 1989. She practiced small animal medicine and surgery at Alameda
East Veterinary Hospital from 1989 until 1992 and then at Tender Care Veterinary Medical Center from 1992 to 1994. She joined Hampden
Family Pet Hospital in 1995 and became co-owner of the practice in January 1996. Dr. Poundstone earned her board certification in
canine and feline practice in 1999 and holds an ABVP Diplomat status.
Her current interests include small animal dentistry, internal medicine and soft tissue surgery. She lives with her wonderful husband
Joe and daughter Jordan. She shares her house with her boxer Rocky, and her cat Stewie. She enjoys scrap booking, scuba diving
and bible study.
Dr. Monica Watterud received her Doctorate degree in Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University in 1989. She practiced in
Southern California for 3 years before returning to Denver in 1992. After working for Pets Mart Veterinary Services, she joined
Hampden Family Pet Hospital in 1999. Her continuing education has included courses in acupuncture and ophthalmology. Her passion for
pets extends beyond the bounds of her job. She and husband Dan are at the service of three well-bred street cats: Horton (a girl), Emmett,
and Lynyrd, and the joyful Great Dane/Lab mix, Lucy. She enjoys testing fine wine and baking when she is not reading or watching movies with
the family.
Dr. Kris Abbey is a native of Colorado, born and raised in Fort Collins. She completed her undergraduate training at the University
of Colorado and the University of Utah, and received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University in 1987. She
completed an internship program at Pittsford Animal Hospital in New York. She enjoys the challenges of general medicine, and has
recently taken an interest in complementary integrative medicine. She became certified in veterinary acupuncture in 1998, and has
also taken classes in Chinese herbal medicine. She enjoys hiking, biking, going to Rockies games, relaxing at home with her husband
Scott, their 2 cats, TaiPan and Sybil, and Jules, the ball-obsessed golden retriever.
Dr. Melissa Etheridge received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Colorado State University in 1999. She previously
received her MA in International Environmental Law from Tufts University and BA from Colorado College. After graduation, she completed an
internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the Veterinary Specialty Hospital in San Diego, California. Prior to entering small
animal practice, she worked with the Jane Goodall Institute in Uganda and as a legislative aide for the US Senate. Her interests
include minimally invasive surgery, including laparoscopy and endoscopy, dentistry and internal medicine. She is a proud mom to
daughters Mara and Ella, and to her chocolate lab Chelsea and Persian-mix kitty Chloe. She enjoys photography, skiing, swimming,
hiking and roller-blading with her husband John.
Dr. Chris Glawe was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. He received his doctorate in veterinary medicine from Colorado
State University in 1993. Following graduation, he returned to Phoenix to practice for 6 years in a progressive multi-doctor hospital.
He returned to Colorado in 2000 and joined a unique non-profit hospital dedicated to providing advanced level veterinary care
to needy families. He was appointed medical director and remained in this capacity for over 3 years. He was involved in the clinical training of
fourth year veterinary medical students which facilitated an affiliate faculty position at Colorado State University.
He became board certified through the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (canine and feline practice) in 2001.
His professional interests include orthopedic and minimally invasive soft tissue surgery. His wife Phyllis is a practicing veterinary
oncologist. They have two sons, John who is 8 and Thomas who is 5. Currently, they have two dogs, Goldie and Jack, and one cat, Tito.
They also have Mr. Squeakers who is a one year old Guinea Pig. Their family enjoys being outdoors and taking advantage of the
wonderful Colorado seasons. Dr. Glawe is an avid mountain and road cyclist and skis as much as time allows.
